For FloridaRAMA, Macy Eats Paint has created an immersive, mixed-media installation that celebrates one of Florida’s sweetest crops, strawberries, and pays homage to the culture that surrounds strawberry production in the greater Tampa Bay region. Strawberry Room, located in the Mermaid Star Motel, presents a celestial theory for the origins of the beloved fruit, while acknowledging how the berries are grown and harvested today, and showcasing the folksy decadence that defines strawberry culture and cuisine.

BIO:

Twenty six years old, an unnatural redhead and a Florida native, Macy Higgins (her legal name) plays with ideas of beauty versus pain, childish versus devilish, nature versus nurture, sexuality versus sensuality and comedy versus tragedy through her art. Consistently afflicted by inconsistent sleep patterns and lucid dreams, her restless imagination conjures a whimsical yet slightly nonsensical aspect to her work. Although she identifies primarily as a painter, Macy thoroughly enjoys the exploration of new medias and the trial and error aspect of art as a whole. Her artwork often contains imagery of nature, womanhood and modern culture and is often described by others as “colorful,” “feminine” and “fresh”. A perfect day for Macy includes a full balanced breakfast followed by hours of creating, that are only interrupted for breaks to cuddle her cat, accompanied by a crisp, balanced glass of Chardonnay and 8 full hours of sleep. Rinse and repeat.” Macy adopted her artist name, Macy Eats Paint, after someone remarked to her, “you paint so much, you practically eat it!”
